New Jersey woman faces drug possession charges
Being arrested and processed through the system can be scary for anyone, particularly a young adult. A 20-year-old woman from Union Beach was recently arrested in Hopatcong, New Jersey on drug charges. TheĀ drug possessioncharges related to marijuana, heroin and paraphernalia. Additional charges included driving while intoxicated, making a turn on red and having drugs in her vehicle.
Authorities stated that they observed the young woman driving and making a turn while the light was red. She allegedly drove over the yellow lines. When the police stopped her vehicle, they observed a marijuana cigarette in the middle console. The young woman denied ownership of the drug and stated that she loaned her vehicle to a friend earlier that same day.
Upon a further search of the vehicle, authorities discovered drug paraphernalia. They also found a pouch containing a substance that they suspected was heroin and bags that they say is often used for the packaging of cocaine. The police also found a copper scouring pad, which they say has been known to be used as a filter for crack pipes.
Authorities conducted a DWI test after allegedly observing signs of intoxication. It is unclear what exact signs of intoxication the suspect allegedly displayed, but she was arrested afterwards, taken to the station and booked. It was during her processing that the authorities learned that the women had a $750 outstanding warrant. Her bail was set at $15,000, which she posted.
Regardless of past criminal history, New Jersey residents facing similar drug possession charges should be aware of their rights. An authority allegedly finding drugs and paraphernalia in the young woman’s car doesn’t constitute guilt. However, it may be in her best interest to research the laws and possible penalties as they pertain to her unique case.
