New Jersey woman accused of assaulting her elderly mother
A woman has been arrested for allegedly assaulting her mother. New Jersey police have stated that the domestic violence charge arises from a report they received from the elderly woman’s hairdresser. The hairdresser is alleged to have told police that the elderly woman told him of the assault and that he had noticed that the woman had suffered a cut to her head and was missing some hair.
Police responded to the salon and spoke with the elderly woman. She is alleged to have told police that her daughter, identified as being 43-years-old, became agitated with her for waking up early and had struck her in the head with her hand. The elderly woman did not receive medical attention and told the police that she did not want her daughter to be arrested.
Police subsequently traveled with the elderly woman to her home. When the daughter was approached by the police, she allegedly became angry, stating that did not want to be incarcerated.
A domestic violence charge often arises from one individual reporting an assault to New Jersey police. This report is oftentimes the only eyewitness account of the assault, as many of these assaults are alleged to occur at a home where only two individuals are present.
In such cases, an accused individual who wishes to contest the charges may benefit from seeking legal advice. The burden to prove the charges is solely upon the prosecution. That measure of proof is difficult to reach, especially when a witness is uncooperative or the evidence is primarily based on the opposing testimony of two people.
