Marijuana allegations for 2 New Jersey teens
When New Jersey residents are accused of drug possession, there are a number of consequences one could face. Not only will one likely be arrested and formally charged with drug possession, but the penalties for conviction include possible time in jail, fines, probation and maybe even trouble obtaining future employment or apartment leases. Two teenagers from Ringoes have been charged with marijuana possession after being pulled over by police on a traffic stop.
The men, ages 18 and 19, were arrested on May 9 shortly after midnight when police say they found marijuana in their possession. A bag of what police believed to be marijuana was allegedly visible in the vehicle’s center console, and authorities say the two men allegedly had small quantities of marijuana in their personal possession. Neither the specific amount said to have been found on the person of each individual, nor the location where the unspecified quantities were claimed to have been found were disclosed. The teenagers were taken into police custody and later released. Both were charged with possessing marijuana in a quantity of less than 50 grams as well as the possession of a dangerous controlled substance in a vehicle.
Drug charges are serious charges that no one should take lightly. With timely defense the repercussions can be minor. Depending on the specific type of drug charges, the consequences can vary from minor to severe, such as fines to time in prison and probation. When one has been charged with the drug possession the first important step is to understand the important legal rights that attach to any individual accused of a crime in New Jersey. Those details await the coming criminal proceedings in our state court system, where each accused man would do well to focus on each element of each accusation to ensure fairness while fighting for a successful result.
