Man possibly linked to stolen rifle faces criminal charge

A 52-year-old man from Dover, New Jersey, was recently arrested and charged with the possession of an allegedly stolen rile. This rifle is suspected to be the same weapon that was purportedly stolen and supposedly fired twice by four juveniles earlier in the week. An additional criminal charge of tampering with evidence has also been lodged against the New Jersey man, as well as other allegations including hindering and obstruction. Additionally, the man’s 30-year-old step-son was charged with hindering and resisting arrest and obstruction.

The four juveniles, all Dover residents between 13 and 15 years of age, were charged with conspiracy, attempted burglary, theft, burglary and criminal mischief. Three of the teenagers were taken to a local juvenile detention center, while the fourth was released to his parents, according to police. Two of the four teenagers were also charged with firearm possession, possession of a rifle for an unlawful purpose as well as firing a weapon as a minor within city limits.

New Jersey authorities say they are uncertain of how the rifle came into the possession of the 52-year-old. Whether or not he is connected to any other crime is left to be investigated and determined. While all accused individuals are entitled to the same legal protections that are guaranteed to all those facing a criminal charge, they appear to have their work cut out for them. Nevertheless, this case is an accurate portrayal of lengths to which the circle of guilt can extend. Even though this man may not have been the individual that supposedly stole the gun, he could still be culpable for having it in his possession and necessitate a criminal defense.
